By God’s Grace

How interesting it is that this was today’s verse of the day on the bible app on my phone. This is actually the scripture I was considering using in our header on the blog. This verse pretty much sums up the reason I believe God laid upon me to start this blog. Blogging is not something I particularly have (ever) enjoyed. I am seriously (in my opinion) horrible at writing – especially when it comes to proper punctuation – so please don’t give up on me for that. I also really don’t like to be completely transparent. Being transparent is something that God is asking of me – and Tom – as of late. We’ve been transparent with one another – but God’s calling us to something larger.
God was us to be intimate with Him. He wants to use us for His glory. When we find ourselves weak and wounded – that’s when God can do His best work – so here we are – we are letting God shine through. We don’t have testimonies that will leave most of you speechless – although, to some of you, it may be what God wants you to hear – and who are we to deny God – when He calls we answer, when God leads you to do something – you better do it, and be ready – our God is a big God – and He does big things.
Hang in here with us as we get this blog up and running and as we share our life with you – for it’s by the grace of God that we are here and that we are able to share with you.

apple jacks.

So , today I made an old family recipe … “Apple Jacks”, known to some people as just ‘fried apple pies’. And y’all, I got em just right (and on my first try)! I don’t have an exact recipe – cooking the apples is by looks and taste . So, sadly the only way to get them close to Mammy’s (Grandma Brock’s / Beatrice Brock) is to have had one of hers & to match the taste of the apples; luckily, if you had one of hers – you will remember the taste & smell 🙂 and if you were lucky to be in the kitchen when she cooked the apples, you’ll know they’re right by the smell (before you even taste). To those of you who didn’t have the pleasure of knowing my great-grandmother, shoot for the flavoring of an apple pie and yours should still turn out just lovely! Good luck! And happy cooking!!

Here are the ingredients :

Dried apples (have to be dried to be the best)
Cinnamon or apple pie seasoning
Lemon juice
Canned non-buttered biscuits (quicker and easier to use, doesn’t take away from homemade dough)

Fry in cast iron pan – using Crisco

hello.

hi there! if you know me, you’re thinking “Ashlee, why on earth are you starting a blog? You never keep up with that kind of stuff..” Well, you’re correct … I myself am wondering the same thing. However, I feel that this is something God is wanting me to keep up with.
With that said, you’ll be finding a mixture of all sorts on here. (Hopefully that will include some entries from my main man, my husband-Tom.) so just hang in here with me and we will see where this goes 🙂
